Friday at the Fair

You know it!  OF COURSE we drove home for the long holiday weekend! It all began Thursday as we moved out of the Jacob's home and into ours.  Not as homeowners yet, rather just renters for now.  We're 3 months into the pursuance of a short sale and the current owners moved out in June and of course we're very welcoming to the idea that we live in the house and pay him rent (mind you he is not current on his home loan or he couldn't be doing a short sale, so he's pocketing the money...but we're in a home).  We had a few things delivered (first time in the 9 years we've been in that we learned you could do a partial delivery of your household goods) and are waiting to have everything else delivered once we close.  If for some reason the short sale does not work and we have to vacate the house, the AF will not move us again, so we're playing it safe.  A 3000 sq. ft. house echoes a lot when there isn't much in it.

It took the standard 5 hours to get home and we made it just time for Jeff and Jerri to feed Jonathan and I dinner (the girls ate on the road).  Grammy made the girls chocolate jello.

 The girls were coloring with markers prior to their dessert.

Friday afternoon we headed to the San Diego County Fair. It is so much fun to do something with your kids that you did growing up!  We wanted to go later in the afternoon and into the evening so the girls could enjoy the lights of all the rides and food booths.

On that note, we had to try some of the CrAzY food the fair offers.  Even Grammy took a bit of everything we got!

Just look what they can fry these days!

~Fried Twinkies~

We got it with chocolate sauce.  Juliet liked it.  She stared up at Jonathan with her mouth open when everyone else got a bite.

~Fried Avocado~
It came with both ranch and a pesto sauce.

~Chocolate Covered Bacon~

The bacon wasn't too bad.  It was both sweet and salty.  It came cold and was quite crunchy.

The big thing the fair did this year was Deep Fry Butter.  We did NOT try it (nor did we see anyone else), however we loved the sign at the booth that sold it.
Why on earth would you need an ambulance parked so close?

In case you needed the sign a bit larger....
They sold the "Coronary Combo"...the butter and bacon for a mere $9.20.

~Caramel Apples~
 These weren't too crazy, but Juliet did enjoy the giant pile of caramel at the bottom of the bowl that daddy kept feeding her.
A kiss for the caramel.

Later on in the evening after we ate dinner (I failed to get a picture of Jonathan's giant Turkey leg...it was about the size of his forearm) we did have a hard time deciding what dessert to get, so we got a couple things.

~Mexican Funnel Cake~

This was SO GOOOOOOD!!!  Its a funnel cake made out of churro dough.  Oh my this thing went FAST!

~Fried Ice Cream~
 This was good too.  The vanilla ice cream was rolled in something crunchy and tasty and topped with chocolate and whipped cream and came with fried dough on the side, of course.  We also had peanut butter cookies, ginger snaps, and ginger bread cookies and Mexican Hot Chocolate (that wasn't very good).  Oh yeah, and lemonade.

This sugar rush helped the girls last until 10:30pm!

There were also farm animals and miles of exhibits, but we didn't do any of those.  The girls were going to get nasty from the animals and be bored in the exhibits so we stuck with the fun stuff....

~RIDES~

Kiddieland

Ava's 1st roller coaster.
~~~~~
 Merry Go Round.
~~~~~

Ava was NOT a big fan of the Hot Air Balloon Ride.
It was very spinny...I had to hold onto Juliet and we were not even turning the circle thing to make it spin!
~~~~~
 The Tea Cups were a hit.  She did better spinning on this than the balloons.
~~~~~

Running to the back seat!

I want to go on that next!

Here we go!                                      Arms up!

That one gets 2 big thumbs up!
~~~~~
Up next for the Giant Goliath Slide
Kylie liked it....
As for Ava....this look of terror lasted the whole way down.
~~~~~
But Ava wanted to go on this one next.
Jonathan was slightly terrified as they climbed up the center to get to the top.

Who looks the most scared on this one?

An "I survived" High Five!
~~~~~
 Daddy wanted them to try the rock wall.  I was VERY certain they wouldn't get to the top...
Nope.  Not gonna happen.  Even after daddy tried to convince her.
Ava's turn.  She wasn't the least bit hesitant even after Kylie gave up....I knew better.
Nope, she didn't get more than 10 feet up either.
~~~~~
Trampoline-that that loved!

Neither one did a flip though.  We tried to encourage them to do so, but they were happy with just bouncing really high.

Juliet hadn't been on a ride in a bit and she was getting mad, so we waited in line for this bee ride.  The girls went in front of Juliet and I and once they ran off, the carnie told me Juliet was too small even to ride with an adult.  It was too late for the big girls to get off the ride and Juliet was even MORE mad!
~~~~~
So she and Jonathan went and got on "Winky the Whale".
Just waiting, having some giggle time with Daddy....
And then Winky starts without any warning.  This was THE jerkiest ride in the park!
Jonathan thought it was more like a mechanical bull!
~~~~~

The girls had been begging to play a game, and since every game in Kiddieland produces a winner, we contributed to the carnie fund, won the small, cheap little toy and headed out of Kiddieland.  Everyone was hungry for something more substantial and we wanted to see what BIG rides we could get the girls on.

~FUN ZONE~

As a mom, I was slightly disturbed and felt guilty subjecting my kids to the goings on of the Fun Zone at the fair, but they didn't ask any questions and didn't wonder why some people looked like they did.  They didn't seem to hear Eminem cursing over the speakers of the swings, which Jonathan totally tricked me into going on with Kylie.  How you  might ask?  Well, he was holding Juliet and I had the camera bag.  He says to me "Kylie wants to go on those" and points to the big swings.  I go to take Juliet from him and say "ok" and he doesn't hand her over.  He gives the the look and I quickly realize he wasn't letting go of her and I proceeded to hand over the camera bag and pray.

The swings went 115 feet in the air and I admitted to Kylie I was scared!  I had visions of us flying off the ride and landing flat as a pancake a few miles away.  Kylie wouldn't hold my hand...she had a death grip on the bar the whole time.

Phew...that was SCARY!!  Its unnerving to think these rides fold up into something the size of a suitcase!

~~~~~
Now she wants to go on the zero gravity ride.  Another one her fighter pilot father can't stand to do!
There we are just to the left of the center.  The ride spun in circles and then tipped us onto a 90 degree angle, or at least it felt like it.  Maybe closer to 60.
~~~~~

Okay, so here's the next ride she wanted to go on.  Basically the same thing but enclosed.  Jonathan took her on it.  He can do it if he can't see out.

Holding up a dizzy little girl.
~~~~~
After these rides, Juliet was tired and getting mad again that she hadn't gone on anything.  There was NOTHING her small little self could go on, even with an adult.  Ava wasn't making any of the height requirements either.  So we decided to hit the carousel one last time then go for our dessert.
Juliet perked right up after this.  Poor thing....it was like she could be on the movie "BIG".
~~~~~
On our way to the last treat of the night, we found Slot Car Racing...we as in Jonathan and his dad.

Grandpa is lookin' a little scared....

The track.

After a practice run, looks like grandpa is making some excuses for his poor performance.

This is some serious stuff!

Goofy boys.

Jeff had a better time than Jonathan, but Jonathan's car ran off the slots and it took a while for the guy running the booth to put it back on, so he gave Jonathan the big winning flag.
~~~~~
Before we left, we watched some people bungee jump.
We took a self portrait.  We also crammed all 5 of us in a photo booth for the little strip of B&W pix.  Jonathan and I have a few of those from when we were teenagers.
Were entertained by Juliet's post treat antics.
Posed with my princess.
